Anna Faris has been fined $6700 for allegedly breaking a dog adoption agreement, five years after her husband Chris Pratt came under fire for giving his cat up on Twitter.

The latest controversy began when Anna was accused of breaking an agreement that she reportedly signed with the dog shelter Kinder4Rescue, when she adopted her pet dog Pete four years ago.

‘Calling Anna Faris house bunny. The puppy you adopted from us years ago was found starving on the street someone brought it into a vet scanned the microchip, we’ve been calling you for days no return call,’ the shelter’s owner Laurel Kinder wrote in an angry Facebook post. ‘If you were panicking looking for your lost dog you certainly would’ve contacted us or the microchip company.’

Laurel claims Anna signed a four-page agreement when she adopted Pete, agreeing to pay a $6700 (US$5000) fine if she ever gave him away.

‘How does this dog end up on the street Anna, being a celebrity does not excuse you from following the rules or respecting the rescue you adopted the dog from, or abiding by the contract,’ Laurel added. ‘This is why people are not allowed to give Kinder4rescue dogs away.’

It’s believed Anna, 39, and Chris, 37, were out of town when the dog shelter called. Pete is currently at the shelter waiting for a new home, while Anna has issued an apology.

‘Five years ago I adopted an adorable Chihuahua named Pete, from the Kinder4Rescue Animal Rescue. Unfortunately when our son was born, we discovered that he was allergic to Pete, so I found what I thought was a loving and responsible family to care for him,’ Anna said in a statement. ‘My agreement with the animal rescue required me to contact them first before allowing another family to take Pete in. I failed to do this, and for that I am deeply sorry. I now understand the dangers of giving animals away for free.’

‘I can’t tell you how thrilled I am that Pete has been found and is back in the hands of Kinder4Rescue. I feared that he had been lost forever and, although he is malnourished and in need of care, it seems he is going to make a full recovery. For this, I am so deeply thankful. We appreciate everyone who has sent good wishes, thoughts and prayers for Pete. Thank you!’.

The actress’s rep adds, ‘Anna is thrilled that the dog has been found, and is ensuring all necessary arrangements are made to bring the dog home.’

It’s not the first time Anna and Chris have come under fire for giving away one of their pets. In 2011, Chris was slammed after he offered up his 15-year-old cat, Mrs White, on Twitter.

‘Anyone in the LA area want a cat?’ the Guardians of the Galaxy star wrote in a tweet he later deleted. ‘Full disclosure, she’s old and prone to accidents. So sweet though.’

Chris later defended his decision after he was slammed by angry fans.

‘My wife and I want to start a family and we ABSOLUTELY CANNOT have an animal that shits all over the house. Sorry. If you are a parent you will understand. And if not, that probably explains why you have such a hard on for cats. Just sayin’,’ said Chris who welcomed his four-year-old son Jack with Anna the following year.

The star also confirmed he’d found his cat a new owner. ‘Her name is Meghan and as far as I could tell she is a perfectly reasonable, sweet and friendly cat lover,’ he explained.
