While Pippa Middleton stunned as a bridesmaid at her sister Duchess Catherine’s wedding, royal experts say Kate won’t have the same honour at 33-year-old Pippa’s upcoming nuptials to James Matthews.

To begin with, ‘bridesmaids’ are traditionally unmarried women – so Kate, 34, would actually have to be the ‘matron of honour’.

However, there are those who believe that Kate will stay out of the wedding party altogether.

‘Kate would upstage her sister. It’s a tricky situation for Pippa,’ says royals author Judy Wade. ‘She would want her sister by her side, as who else would she trust to make things go well? But if your sister is a future queen, she is going to upstage the bride and draw attention. Kate would want to be in the background as much as possible.’
