Katy Perry was due to headline the Alibaba concert to mark Singles Day in China on November 11, however, the star has had to pull out due to a mysterious ‘family emergency’.

The 32-year-old singer posted on Chinese social media site Weibo on November 9 saying that, ‘Regretfully, I must cancel my appearance on the Alibaba Double 11 due to a family emergency,’

‘I am very sorry to disappoint my fans and look forward to seeing you in China soon.’

Alibaba Singles Day is a 24-hour online shopping extravaganza.  Katy was named a ‘global ambassador’ for the event in October and she was due to perform alongside NBA star Kobe Bryant and band OneRepublic.

David Beckham will now appear in Katy’s place.
