Miley Cyrus has given one of her most candid interviews to date, with the 23-year-old Crisis in Six Scenes star opening up to Variety magazine about how she defines her sexuality.

Discussing coming to terms with her own sexual identity at a young age, the Wrecking Ball singer revealed: ‘My whole life, I didn’t understand my own gender and my own sexuality. I always hated the word “bisexual”, because that’s even putting me in a box. I don’t ever think about someone being a boy or someone being a girl.’

Miley is pansexual, meaning she feels sexual attraction, emotional attraction or romantic love for people regardless of their sex or gender identity. The singer went on to confess that her ‘eyes started opening in the fifth or sixth grade’ when her ‘first relationship in [her] life was with a chick’.

While her family is now fully supportive, Miley admits that wasn’t always the case:

‘I grew up in a very religious Southern family. [But] the universe has always given me the power to know I’ll be OK. Even at that time, when my parents didn’t understand, I just felt that one day they are going to understand.’

Miley is currently engaged to 26-year-old Liam Hemsworth, with the couple rumoured to be marrying in Byron Bay later this year.
