Bruce Jenner has broken his silence to express his condolences over the fatality and injuries caused by the horrific car accident he was involved in on an LA highway.

Bruce, 65, issued a statement expressing sympathy for the families involved.

“My heartfelt and deepest sympathies go out to the family and loved ones, and to all of those who were involved or injured in this terrible accident,” Bruce said in a statement released to Us Weekly.

“It is a devastating tragedy and I cannot pretend to imagine what this family is going through at this time. I am praying for them. I will continue to cooperate in every way possible.”

Bruce’s publicist also addressed reports that Bruce may have been texting on his phone at the time the accident occurred.

“The evidence will show that Bruce was not texting at the time of the accident,” Alan Nierob said.

Texting while driving is illegal in the state of California, which means if he was texting, Bruce could potentially be up on manslaughter charges.

Bruce was involved in a four-car smash in LA that left one person dead and eight others injured.

The accident occurred on a notorious accident black-spot on a stretch of the Pacific Coast highway in Malibu. Photos from the scene of the smash show mangled vehicles lining the road. Of the four cars and eight people involved in the incident, there was one fatality.

The pile-up was believed to have been a chain-reaction crash with Bruce reportedly rear-ending a Lexus, after that driver had rear-ended a Toyota Prius. It was the driver of the Lexus who was killed, according to the Los Angeles Times, after their car was propelled into oncoming traffic.

The woman who died in the crash, is believed to be 69-year-old Kim Howe – a wealthy Los Angeles widow who owns several properties LA and is possibly known to the Kardashian family as she is a neighbour of Kourtney, Khloe and Robert Kardashian in the area known as Calabasas.

So far, the only official police statement released by the Malibu Lost Hills sheriff’s station, describes the incident, and Bruce’s involvement in it, thus: “At approximately 12:15pm [PST] there was an accident involving three vehicles on PCH, just east of Corral Canyon. Bruce Jenner was involved. We don’t know yet in what way he was involved, if he was a passenger or driver. There is one fatality.”

Bruce reportedly passed a sobriety test and submitted a blood sample voluntarily. It was initially reported that a paparazzi chasing Bruce’s vehicle might have been a factor in the crash but police sources have since told CNN there are no signs that paparazzi played a role in the crash.

The incident occurred at a time of intense media scrutiny for the reality star, as it is believed that he is on the cusp of revealing that he is undergoing a gender transition, after over twenty years as the Kardashian family patriarch.

The former Olympic champion is believed to be undergoing a transition, after his mother Esther Jenner, came out and confirmed it last week

“I just learned about [his transition]. Bruce filled me in, and we had a very long, long, long talk about it,” she told Radar Online.

“I have never been more proud of Bruce for who he is…I support him whole-heartedly. I just love him like I always have.”

The other members of the Kardashian family are yet to comment or release any statement regarding Bruce and his involvement in the crash.
