If Wednesday night’s GQ Men of the Year Awards are anything to go by, it’s clear Australia has a multitude of inspiring males trailblazing the way for the next generation.

But we can’t forget our army of female powerhouses who joined them. And, if we’re frank, they were the one’s who stole the show.

The event itself brings together over 300 VIPs from sporting, music, fashion and entrepreneurial backgrounds. This year, Lisa Wilkinson, Pia Miller and Naomi Watts were among the celebrities joining the prominent Australian men.

Taking out the coveted GQ Man of the Year Award was Australian actor and director Joel Edgerton, who also used the night to debut his relationship with high profile stylist Christine Centenera from Vogue Australia, with the pair stepping out on the red carpet together.

Meanwhile homegrown actress Elizabeth Debicki took out the award for Woman of the Year after securing a number of prominent roles in Hollywood over the past year. This includes a leading role in the highly-anticipated Steve McQueen movie Widows, which has generated Oscar buzz.

But there was plenty more to the star-studded event than just the awards. From floor length gowns to LBDs, and more velvet suits than one could count: The red (or more accurately, black) carpet didn’t fail to disappoint.
