In a recent interview with GQ Australia, Scott Eastwood – the son of legendary actor/director Clint Eastwood – spoke for the first time about the death about his girlfriend in 2014.
When asked about the last time he cried, Eastwood responded, “I dated a girl a couple of years ago who died in a car accident.”
Apparently, the accident itself was quite minor but the car she was driving had a faulty airbag. “The f–ked up thing is, it was a fender bender, and there was a recall on airbags,” he said.
“Her airbag exploded. It shot a projectile through her body. It split her spine, and um… I’ve never told anybody that. I’ve lost friends before; I’ve lost some great friends. But, I had never lost someone I had been really intimate with, you know, like in that way, in a relationship. I think that really affected me in a way that… I don’t know. Maybe it’s made it harder for me to date.”
While Eastwood did not reveal her identity, People reports that the woman was a 26-year-old model named Jewel Brangman. The Honda Civic she was driving was fitted with defective airbags manufactured by Takata Corp. of Japan. According to reports, the airbags became unstable when exposed to moisture, causing the metal canister to explode. This resulted in one of the biggest airbag recalls in the history of America, with 24 automakers recalling 24 million vehicles.
To this day, Eastwood has never spoken to Brangman’s father. “I still never called her father. I still haven’t found the right words.”
A tragic story for all involved.
