Actress Zoe Saldana has revealed the challenges that older women face in Hollywood and why she is refusing to be typecast for “mummy roles”.

The 36-year-old star is rebelling against the stereotype, and instead she’s opting for more challenging and unique characters in films.

“By the time you’re 28 you’re expired, you’re playing mommy roles. We’re not the ones putting ourselves in those places. We’re allowing ourselves to be put in those positions. I just won’t allow it,” the Avatar actress told The Telegraph.

“When men – producers – say, ‘You’re old,’ to me that is the most laughable f— ridiculous thing a moron could ever say,” she said in the interview.

Saldana, who is reportedly expecting a child with her husband, has stayed true to her love of sci-fi franchises – the actress plays Gamora in the soon-to-be released Guardians Of The Galaxy film.
