The actor was killed in an unfortunate car accident at his Los Angeles home early on Sunday morning. Anton was standing in his driveway behind his parked car when the vehicle rolled backwards and pinned him against a brick mailbox and a security fence.

The star was on his way to meet friends for a rehearsal at the time, and when he didn’t show up, the group went to the actor’s home and found his body.

Anton was an only child, and is survived by his parents. A rep for the actor released a statement saying ‘his family requests you respect their privacy at this time’.

Born in Russia, Anton’s parents immigrated to the US when he was a baby and the actor made his onscreen debut in a 2000 episode of ER, further appearing in a slew of films before landing the role of Chekov in the 2009 Star Trek remake.
