In a candid new interview with WSJ magazine, 40-year-old actress Charlize Theron opens up for the first time about the breakdown of her relationship with Sean Penn last year.

Beginning as just friends, the two dated for 18 months before announcing their split in June.

While discussing how open she was with Sean, 55, about her desire to have more children, Charlize also decided to address the rumours that she ‘ghosted’ the actor during their separation.

‘There is this need to sensationalise things,’ she says. ‘When you leave a relationship there has to be some f—ing crazy story or some crazy drama. And the f—ing ghosting thing, like literally I still don’t even know what it is.’

By ‘ghosting’, Charlize is referring to the act of abruptly cutting off all contact with someone, which she is adamant she did not do.

‘It’s just its own beast. We were in a relationship and then it didn’t work anymore. And we both decided to separate. That’s it.’

Adding that her publicist was going to kill her as she was ‘already saying too much’, the traditionally private actress made it clear that her children Jackson, four, and August are still her number one priority.

‘Your whole life is about these things that you like to share, these things that you love more than anything in the world.’
