She made Australia proud when she placed second in the Eurovision Song Contest over the weekend, and now Dami Im is using her platform to talk about some of the challenges she faces in the entertainment industry – specifically, finding the correct skincare for her complexion.

The 27-year-old Australian-Korean singer has appeared in the latest L’Oréal Paris True Match commercial to vent her frustrations, saying:

‘In Australia, when they do my make-up, they try and make me look much darker than I actually am but in Korea they make me look white and pale. Why can’t they make me look like myself?’

Dami’s Korean heritage has always been important to her, with the star migrating to Australia when she was nine years old with her mother and brother while her father stayed behind to support them financially. In 2014, the singer appeared on a Sunday Night TV special called Dami Im: Finding my Family to track down family she’d never met.

Dami has become Australia’s singing sweetheart, having won The X Factor in 2013 and releasing highly praised studio albums since. Her appearance on Eurovision proved to be popular not only with Australians, but with the whole of Europe. Way to go, Dami!
