Amal Clooney fought back tears while talking about her latest case with NBC News, and how her husband, actor George Clooney, sometimes fears for her life due to the parties involved.

The 38-year-old human rights lawyer gave a rare televised interview to discuss her latest case, which will see her take ISIS to trial on behalf of a sex slave held captive by the group.

The high-profile case, which is the first of its kind and could lead to world leaders taking ISIS to court for genocide, does not sit lightly with Amal or her husband.

‘You know, this is something I discussed with my husband before I took on something like this,’ she explained. ‘We did discuss it, and we are aware of some of the risks involved, of course.’

‘He met Nadia [the woman Amal is defending] too, and I think he was moved for the same reasons. And he understood. I mean, this is my work.’

Last year, while George was promoting his latest film Hail, Caesar! he spoke with ET about Amal’s work, saying, ‘I’m always very proud of her when I see her speaking at the International Court of Appeals in Strasbourg, you know, with her robe on. It’s very impressive.’

Continuing to gush about his wife, the 55-year-old added, ‘She’s an amazing human being. And she’s caring. And she also happens to be one of the smartest people I’ve ever met. And she’s got a great sense of humour.’
