Gigi Hadid put her boxing skills to good use last week when she was ambushed by serial pest, Vitalii Sediuk, in Milan.

The self-dubbed ‘entertainment reporter and prankster’ left Gigi furious when he accosted her from behind and lifted her into the air. Now, the 21-year-old model has spoken out about the incident.

In a piece for Lena Dunham’s Lenny Letter titled ‘Gigi Hadid Will Not Accept Street Harassment, and Neither Should You’, Gigi highlights how she ‘honestly felt [she] was in danger’.

‘I remember taking the time, as it all felt slo-mo, to look at him, a stranger, and my first reaction was, “Get me out of this situation”.’

‘I played volleyball, and my coaches talked about muscle memory. I started boxing two years ago and I always remembered that. Since then, I hadn’t been in a situation that forced me to fight back, but it just came out when he grabbed me – it wasn’t a choice. I do have a fighter in me.’

Gigi also goes on to detail that her mother, Yolanda Hadid, messaged her a photo of her elbowing Vitalii in the face with a message that said ‘Good girl’, as Yolanda had ‘always taught [her] the power of instincts since she was a kid’.

As scary as the situation was, Gigi is thankful for the outpouring of support she has received and strongly believes that, ‘it’s everyone’s right [to defend themselves], and it can be empowering’.
