The end of Gwyneth Paltrow and Chris Martin’s marriage made headlines in 2014 when they announced that they were ‘consciously uncoupling’ via her lifestyle website Goop.

The phrase received a lot of publicity – both good and bad – and in a new interview, Gwyneth reveals they were surprised by the reaction.

‘We didn’t know that the “conscious uncoupling” phrase was going to inspire so much conversation,’ she explains. ‘At the time people said, “These people are crazy,” and it’s true, but over time now I hear people saying, “Thank you for showing there is another way.”’

The actress admits that while her divorce to Chris, 39, was a painful experience, they’ve both worked hard to maintain a good relationship for the sake of their two children Apple, 12, and Moses, 10.

‘You can remain a family even though you are not a couple and make it a less traumatic experience for the children,’ she continues.

‘As anybody who has been divorced knows, you have to put a lot aside to maintain the family and the practicalities of what that might mean and sometimes that’s quite tough on a personal level,’ she adds.
