When The Project co-host Carrie Bickmore won the Gold Logie this year, she used her acceptance speech to tell the world about her husband Greg, who sadly passed away from brain cancer in 2010.

The 35-year-old star urged Australians to don a beanie the next day to help raise awareness for the disease – and we listened.

‘It’s funny, because I wasn’t going to do it, and now I think, thank God I did. Because there are so many people you can help,’ says Carrie, who went on to start the foundation Beanies 4 Brain Cancer.

Her co-star Waleed Aly says of that speech, ‘I remember having that moment where it hits you that you’re witnessing history,’ he says.

It’s been a big 2015 for Waleed, too. In his first year on The Project panel, the father-of-two became a viral sensation following his powerful speech after the Paris attacks in November, on behalf of the Muslim community.

Still time to catch The Project tonight!!   A photo posted by Carrie Bickmore (@bickmorecarrie) on

But the humble 37-year-old has a much more modest highlight for the year: ‘One of my greatest moments was being at the MCG watching the World Cup,’ he smiles.
