Pro surfer Mick Fanning and his wife Karissa Dalton have confirmed they have decided to end their eight-year marriage.

The couple spent last year denying rumours of a split as they were ‘committed to working things out’.

It’s been one tough year for the couple, with Mick fighting off a shark attack in a surfing competition last July and his brother Peter, 43, passing away in December.

Mick, 34, released a statement on his Facebook page confirming the split.

‘I have nothing but love and respect for this woman. Karissa has stood by me since we first met in 2004. We have shared plenty of great times but more importantly she has helped me through some of the toughest moments of my life, especially this past year,’ he wrote.

‘There has been some speculation about our marriage coming to an end over the past six months. We refuted those claims because we were both committed to working things out since we separated last February. After giving it our all though, late last year we made the tough mutual decision to move on separately.’

The couple, who married in 2008, have been very open about the struggles of juggling a career and a relationship, with Mick travelling nine months of the year for work and Karissa, 32, based on the Gold Coast running a wedding business.

With the pair making the mutual decision to split, we wish them both the very best.
