Music icon, Prince, has passed away at the age of 57.

The Purple Rain singer was found unresponsive in an elevator at his Minnesota estate on April 21, days after he was rushed to hospital for ‘severe flu’ symptoms.

‘It is with profound sadness that I am confirming that the legendary, iconic performer, Prince Rogers Nelson, has died at his Paisley Park residence this morning at the age of 57,’ his rep announced in a statement.

‘There are no further details as to the cause of death at this time.’

On Saturday, hours after he was released from hospital, he took to the stage at a private party, eerily telling fans: ‘Wait a few days before you waste any prayers.’

Prince sold more than 100 million records in his 40-year career and had an incredible 16 top-10 hits in Australia alone.

In the wake of his shock death, his first wife, Mayte Garcia opened up about her ex, whom she split with in 1999 after four years of marriage.

‘I can’t even think of the words of what I’m feeling. This man was my everything, we had a family. I am beyond deeply saddened and devastated,’ she explained, adding: ‘I loved him then, I love him now and will love him eternally. He’s with our son now.’

Marcia gave birth to Prince’s only child, a son Boy Gregory, who sadly passed away at just a week old from a rare disorder called Pfeiffer Syndrome.
