Katie Holmes was the spitting image of a poised Jackie Kennedy during the filming of the miniseries The Kennedy’s: After Camelot in in Toronto on June 13. But she truly sparkled when interacting with her young co-stars on the set, who play Jackie’s children, using a pair of  pretzels as eyeglasses to solicit smiles.

It was a glimpse at the kind of fun mum the star is to her 10-year-old daughter, Suri. But Katie, 37, can also be fiercely protective, and friends say ex-husband Tom Cruise, 53, is about to see this side of her. Hidden in their 50-page divorce document is a clause stating that Katie can seek a modification of the $540,000 a year in child support she receives if there’s  a substantial change in circumstances. And there has been: Tom, who maintains visitation rights, has not seen Suri in over  1000 days due to conflicts with his controversial religion Scientology.

‘Katie now wants Tom to pay,’ an insider reveals exclusively to OK! Australia. ‘She’s fed up. Some friends say they’re headed back to court, where they would have an explosive showdown. And, they say, Katie feels she would triumph.’

If Katie does take Tom to court, the mole spills, bombshell secrets about the couple’s six-year marriage, his allegiance to Scientology and why Tom hasn’t been a physical presence in his daughter’s life could come to light.

‘It could be a brutal court battle,’ the insider says. ‘Katie used to be afraid of Tom and his legal team. But she’s not the same person she was when [they] split four years ago. She’s taken control of her life and is a lot stronger. Tom’s in for a real fight!’

In a 2013 legal deposition, Tom did admit that Scientology –and Katie’s fears for Suri if she stayed in the religion – was part of the reason for their divorce. Under the church’s doctrine, kids as young as six can be questioned by an ethics officer (known as ‘security checking’) if they act out. And the leading school for Scientology kids, Oregon’s $56,800-a-year Delphian, has been blasted for allegedly making students do chores as punishment, feeding them scraps and sending sick students to an isolation ward. Tom’s adopted with ex Nicole Kidman, Connor, 21, and Isabella, 23, both attended the boarding school. ‘If Tom is asked about Scientology in court, it could get really ugly for him,’ the pal adds. ‘Tom’s all about his image, and he hates looking bad.’

Meanwhile, Katie ‘pays for a nanny, dance lessons, after-school activities and more,’ for their daughter, explains  the insider. ‘Katie doesn’t want Suri to feel like she’s missing out on things she enjoyed while with Tom. Katie is a model parent, she’s incredibly active in Suri’s life and makes her daughter a priority.’

Suri deserves the world, according to Katie, and scoring another chunk of Tom’s whopping $636 million fortune would help ensure she gets it.

Katie’s rep, Leslie Sloane, tells OK! Australia that the actress ‘has no interest or plans to go back to court and revisit the past.’ But according to family law expert Goldie Schon the terms of that modification clause have been met: ‘A “change of circumstances” could very well be that Suri’s older, Suri has more activities, Suri requires more money because she has more things that she needs,’ she explains

‘Tom is going to make sure the showdown isn’t easy for Katie,’ notes a second insider. ‘He’s still one of Hollywood’s biggest power players, and he rarely loses when it comes to money and the law.’
